Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison Strengthens Its AI-Driven Telecom Vision Despite Market Pressures

Bali, August 05, 2025 โ€” Amidst rising market complexity and shifting consumer behaviors, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IDX: ISAT) proves that resilience and innovation can go hand in hand. In its Q2 2025 financial report, the telecom company not only maintained profitability but continued laying the groundwork for its long-term ambition: becoming an AI-driven tech company empowering Indonesians nationwide.

Indosat posted revenue of IDR 13.5 trillion in Q2โ€”slightly down by 0.3% from the previous quarterโ€”but still delivered a strong net profit of IDR 1.02 trillion. The companyโ€™s EBITDA stood at IDR 6.4 trillion, with a healthy 47.6% margin, driven by efficient cost controls and operational discipline.

โ€œIndosat is fully committed to delivering long-term value while advancing our transformation into an AI-TechCo,โ€ said Vikram Sinha, President Director & CEO. โ€œOur purpose remains clear: empowering Indonesia through inclusive technology that reaches everyone.โ€

Customer Base Grows, Bali Nusra Region Leads with 23.9% Data Surge

As the company stays profitable at the national level, its Bali-Nusa Tenggara region (Bali Nusra) also saw promising growth. Between June 2024 and June 2025, Indosat added 400,000 new users in the region.

With the growing user base came a 23.9% year-on-year surge in data traffic, reflecting the success of continued 4G expansion and improved network performance. Over 400 new 4G base stations were added, bringing the regional total to nearly 7,700 BTS.

“We’re not just growing in numbersโ€”we’re enhancing digital experiences across the archipelago,” said Fahd Yudhanegoro, EVP-Head of Circle Java.

AI Innovation, Inclusive Access, and National Collaboration

Even under financial pressures, Indosat is doubling down on digital expansion. The average revenue per user (ARPU) remains strong at IDR 38,900, with a total of 95.4 million subscribers and a 10.3% rise in data traffic quarter-over-quarter.

The company now operates over 203,000 4G base stations, adding 15,000 in just the first half of 2025. Capital expenditure reached IDR 7.5 trillion, with nearly 80% invested in customer experience improvements. Financially, Indosat maintains a robust position with a net debt to EBITDA ratio of 0.49x.

A highlight of Indosatโ€™s mission is the opening of its AI Experience Center (AIEC) in Jayapura, Papuaโ€”an ambitious step to bring cutting-edge AI to underserved regions, particularly in health and education sectors.

The company also marked a new milestone by becoming the official partner of Indonesiaโ€™s AI Center of Excellence, a government-led initiative backed by Komdigi. In collaboration with global tech giants like NVIDIA and Cisco, Indosat is accelerating AI talent development and business transformation nationwide.

โ€œThis is just the beginning,โ€ said Vikram. โ€œWe believe in innovation with purposeโ€”and in creating real impact for Indonesiaโ€™s digital future.โ€

A Future-Focused Telecom Built on Purpose

While competitors scramble to adjust to market volatility, Indosat is quietly building something bigger: a telecom future driven by AI, inclusion, and national growth. For observers of Indonesiaโ€™s digital transformationโ€”especially in fast-growing regions like Bali and Nusa Tenggaraโ€”this is a story worth watching.
